Last year my family and I went down to the Anne Douglas Center at the Los Angeles Mission and volunteered to stuff backpacks for their annual End of Summer Block PartyThe Anne Douglas Center (ADC) has a program that serves homeless women or women fighting addiction or abuse, providing shelter, meals, & clothing.  The women live at the ADC  for one year and after they graduate, the ADC continues to provide them with the necessary tools to re-enter back into society.   A friend of mines runs the eBay program  at the Anne Douglas Center where they sell clothing on eBay to raise money for the homeless shelter.   The eBay program they have teaches the women the basics of running an online business.

Generous women donate clothing to this eBay program. When I was contacted by my friend, she  informed  that the women were discouraged because they thought the clothing were too old and they didn’t think anyone would buy the clothes if they listed it on eBay.  My friend that runs the program follows my blog and shared it with the  women in the program so she sent me over a couple of pieces so I can give them ideas on how vintage clothing can be reworked into a wardrobe since that’s mainly what’s donated.

I wish these women much success. This is the vintage Oscar del la Renta sequins sweater that they sent over to me. I’m so in love with it. I’ll be showing you more pieces soon. Have a great weekend everyone!  If you want to support this program go to www.ebaygivingworks.com and type Anne Douglas Center in the Non-profit field.

tip of the day: Just because something is old doesn’t mean it still isn’t beautiful!

  1. It was great when you brought your family down to volunteer. You are truly an amazing mother, teaching your children the values of giving back and sharing their time.

Thank you for this wonderful post. The women are going to be so happy when they see you in this sequined sweater. They thought I was crazy when I told them I knew someone that could rock this vintage sweater like no other. And when I showed them your blog and they saw how young and fly you are, they all said "No way! She is not going to like this old sweater!!" Well thank you for proving me wrong!

    You look stunning!!!

Blessings to you, your family, and your blog!

You are quite a wonderful mother, wife and I would believe that you are a beautiful friend as well. You radiate with great qualities and I am inspired each time that I check your blog and read your post.

  4. I love this post. You look great, that sweater is so pretty and timeless, and I can't tell you how much I love that you make sure to have your family involved in charitable activities! I try to do the same with my kids and this post has reminded me that it's time for me to start looking and planning for our next charitable adventure where we can bless someone and do it together. Thanks. 🙂

  6. Thanks for the inspiration! Volunteering as a family has been something I want to do and really need to make a serious effort to do it.

  7. There is nothing more important that giving back. As a teacher I often times volunteer doing something else to feel like I am helping others even though I know that I am already doing that in my classroom. Our church is going to Haiti and I really wanted to volunteer, but they will be going right when school starts back so I can't. I will check out the organization. I LOVE that dog and the sweater is fab!

  8. U truly inspire me, I have told u before and i will say it again. At the end of the day, we are here for such a greater purpose. I love coming to this blog to watch you fufill your purpose.

  9. It’s ALWAYS great to see ppl giving back… I can tell that you have a heart of GOLD; it’s shines & glows on your pic’s! BTW, I like how you styled the sweater!
