Competetion(?)

I know some people with really nice things. I look at them and dream sometimes, but I stay in my lane. I don’t feel like I’ve ever had to compete against anyone in my lifetime.  I know who I am.

I’m not breaking my bank to keep up with anyone… ever. If you like something, you want it really bad and you work hard for the money I say get it, but if you know you have to pay the car note and you chose shoes there is something wrong! I’m saying this cause I know a couple of women that chose retail over their mortgage. Why?

If there is something I like and the price is over $500 I try to evaluate the situation. I say to myself “is this a practical purchase, will I have this item for years to come?” I just recently in the past 5 years starting thinking like this. When I was younger I would wear Christian Dior from head to toe and a lot of those pieces were expensive, but are useless to me right now. I saved a couple of things and I’ll feature them here, but I’m thinking “can I pass this down to my daughter.”

Another reason for my change of fashion choices is that I’m a saver. If I make a big purchase I want to wear the item so it won’t be a waste of money. If your funds are limited you can still look good. It’s all on the person. When you carry yourself with class and you look nice… it’s automatic no matter what you’re wearing you will look great. Focus on staples like a nice blazer, a bright colored handbag and don’t forget a black pump, just to to name a few.

I know most of my readers have their thing together, but this was on my mind so it’s one out there that needed to read this.:) Have a great weekend…

Tip of the day: Save if you can…

  1. I so know what you mean….

I am a luster myself, and thank god for limited finds hehe, or else I would prob be a shop-a-holic, purse-a-holic. 🙂

  2. First let me say that I visit your website daily and I'm so excited when I arrive and see a new post! 🙂

I LOVE this look from head to toe. I would have never thought to pair the leopards with this outfit, but it really works.

Flawless as usual and great message… "Stay in your lane" ladies… Stop trying to keep up with the Jones'!

  3. I totally agree with you! There are plenty of people (not just women) who live outside of their means. There are plenty of people who make stupid decisions to buy things rather than paying their bills first. I always pay my bills first, put something in savings, then what's left is mine to play with!

Anyhoo, loving your outfit. You always look so pretty & put together! LOVE LOVE LOVE those heels!!

  4. What a cute outift! I love the unexpected print of the leopard shoes!

Girl, lemme tell you! I use to be so dumb and foolish in my youth. I was ALWAYS trying to keep up with the Joneses by doing way too much! I overextended myself one time so badly, that I had to pawn a tennis bracelet that was an anniversary gift from my husband to pay my monthly bills. I know that was my lowest point and asked myself who was I trying to impress?! I'm glad I matured beyond that.

  5. loved your message and i completely agree…a lot of people don't have their priorities in order and its too late when they realize.

love the f21 short on you!! perfect spring color and those shoes O.o…lets just say i have couple months to go if i were to get those LOL 🙂 cute outfit!

  6. I would never think to create an outfit like this EVER! Those are my favorite shoes, I LOVE'EM!

That is so true saving is something I am working on, and I am a work in progress

  7. Tanya where was this post 5 to 10 years ago!!! OMG I had to mature the hard way! I got myself into debt trying to keep up with the Jones's while I was a college student. I do not know what I was thinking, but I paid for it dearly. I just recently paid off that debt over $30,000 on clothes….Wow how stupid….And almost all of the items, are gone now, don't fit or are out of style and useless, except for the staple pieces you mentioned like a blazer, nice pair of black heels or bright colored statement bag. But now, I do stay in my lane…Loehmann's, H&M, and Forever 21 is where I go for day to day items, and You would be surprised at the "treasures" you find in Loehmann's at hundreds less. I do ocasionally splurge on that "To die for" handbag, but I am not breaking my bank or ruining my credit to compete with anyone. So true! Thanks!!! And very cute outfit!! Love it!!

  8. I love your blog. I find myself visiting often to see what your next blog is. I have matured a great deal over the last few years. I used to be that person, spending uncontrollably, but mainly because I was at home. Just like every other girl, I love to shop. But ever since I have been on my own (now 5 yrs) I have minimized on my spending. I still have to learn how to save more, but I'm a work in progress.

  10. I have learned through my "growing experiences" that just because you can afford something, it does not mean you should buy it. It really takes discipline to make wise decisions when it comes to spending your money. Cause Lord knows I have expensive taste…

I agree class and sophistication are far more important than a price tag. Your blog is a prime example. There are dozens of blogs that showcase women owning luxury items. What has captivated me to read your blog is the wisdom from which you speak and the recurring theme of God and your relationship with him. You have nice things, but what sets you apart is your sincerity and humility. God has blessed you, and you are not afraid to say it. Whether you are wearing Gucci heels, or Forever 21 flats, you are still an amazing woman and a role model to me.

God bless & have an amazing weekend!

  11. u are amazing hun!U are so articulate and down to earth Ive recently found ur blog and I am so inspired go bless please continue to shine diva!

  12. Yeah….I'm not that person. I would spend on a trip or something before clothes. Like now, i'm saving because I have a couple of trips coming up and I want to make sure that my daughter and I enjoy these trips. I think the most expensive purchase that I made was a Louis bag…and I hardly ever use it! But I wanted it and I loved it and it's mine.

Let me just say that your outfit is really cute. Love the colors and love those shoes!

  13. I completely agree! I always teach the Teens that I work with that the goal is to look like you're expensive but find the best deals around. I just found some similar heels – sling back leopard peep toe's by jessica simpson for $40 in Marshalls I almost fell on the floor! Actually, i think i did, LOL 🙂 but as you said, if you work hard for the money and you can AFFORD to Treat Yourself then by all means do your thing! I've also made it a point to create an ING Savings account so that I have separate money that I'm not able to use unless absolutely necessary. Key word "PRIORITIZE!" 14. I love this post !!! You hit on the nail " when you carry yourself with class, you will look good" Yes I think you should do a post of saving

  15. Those shoes are hot. Your shoe game stays on point Tanya:) Totally agree with you about not breaking the bank trying to keep up with anyone. Besides clothes and shoes don't make the person, it's all about the person who is wearing them.

  16. Tanya…this is a great post and good work for folks but really the tip of the day should be "Save FIRST" I feel like if people have money to spend on a pair of 300 dollar shoes but then the following week are crying broke, they need to be putting that money away instead of spending it. Things will come eventually but money for the futuree is more important. I know a girl that STAYS fly and the only place she shops is ROSS. When folks are 65 years old, what will those 300 dollar shoes do for them? Nothing.

People can always save..even if it's just 5 cents a day. People these days are too worried about keeping up wirh the Jones and going broke or going into debt just to buy an item that they'll only wear 4 or 5 times.
    So not worth it.

…sorry went off there but this gets me so fired up..lol

nice post and as usual cut 'fit!

  17. I really like this look, it's super cute! I would've never thought to pair the shoes with this outfit…

  18. Clothes are just clothes and if someone thinks that theirs is better than yours because of whos on the label then they are just plain stupid…in the beginning its just fabric and in the end its still fabric…. If spending hundreds of dollars makes you feel better about you then you must not be worth anything at all. Feel pretty in that 1 dollar dress as you would in that 100 dollar dress…do what you feel and not what they want!

  19. I absolutely love your style! But, even more I enjoy your posts. You come across as a positive, God-fearing woman. You are truly beautiful on the inside and out! And, you have inspired me to grow my hair long again. I look forward to your summer fashions!
